Best Historic Stays: Casa Marina Hotel in Jacksonville Beach

On the shores of Jacksonville Beach, Casa Marina Hotel has been a coastal landmark since 1925. With its Spanish-Mediterranean architecture and rich history, this intimate boutique hotel continues to welcome guests looking for a relaxing beachfront retreat. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway, a special event, or just a sunset cocktail with ocean views, Casa Marina offers a timeless escape.

Casa Marina Hotel’s History

The Casa Marina Hotel has been turning heads since its grand opening on June 6, 1925, during the height of Florida’s first land boom. That same day, the town of Pablo Beach officially became Jacksonville Beach, ushering in a new era of growth and tourism. Designed with Spanish-Mediterranean elegance, Casa Marina was the area’s first fireproof building, featuring stucco, concrete, tile, and an automatic sprinkler system.

During the roaring 1920s, Jacksonville was a thriving destination, attracting elite visitors from around the world. The hotel hosted notable guests including Jean Harlow, Al Capone, and even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, while the city flourished as an early hub for the movie industry.

During World War II, the U.S. government requisitioned the Casa Marina for military housing, and in the following decades, the property changed hands several times, serving as everything from a tearoom and clothing store to private apartments and a restaurant. After closing for a period of time, the grand lady of Jacksonville Beach reopened in 1991.

Today, celebrating nearly a century of elegance, Casa Marina has 23 individually designed rooms and parlor suites. Mine had stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the hotel’s beautiful courtyard, making it difficult to leave!

Guests can start their mornings with the complimentary continental breakfast before stepping right onto the sand. Beach access is just a few steps away from the lobby and courtyard, allowing you to fully embrace this easy and beautiful beach getaway!

The Penthouse Lounge

One of the standout features of Casa Marina is its Penthouse Lounge, a rooftop bar offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a go-to spot for both locals and visitors, perfect for sipping a Key Lime Martini or an Espresso Martini while taking in the ocean breeze.

The small plate menu is just as impressive, featuring favorites like the Turkey Apple Brie Grilled Cheese and Caprese Flatbread. Whether you're unwinding after a day at the beach or celebrating a special occasion, the Penthouse Lounge provides an unforgettable experience.
