Best Historic Stays: Discover the Hollywood History of The Hacienda in New Port Richey

The Hacienda, Nestled in the heart of New Port Richey, is a beautifully restored historic hotel that has a perfect blend of antique charm and modern amenities. Originally opened on February 5, 1927, this iconic hotel has been a beloved landmark for nearly a century, earning its place on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in October 1996. After a meticulous renovation, The Hacienda reopened its doors in 2022. It was truly the perfect place to kick off my series about the Best Historic Stays in the Sunshine State!

The hotel's 40 rooms, adorned with Spanish-Floridian charm, feel like home away from home as soon as you walk in. I especially loved the unique shape of the windows in my first floor suite that looked out to downtown New Port Richey. Despite its vintage appeal, The Hacienda has all the modern comforts you would want in a hotel, including beautifully redone bathrooms and easy-to-use individual AC units. Room rates range from $139 to $159 per night, which is quite reasonable, especially when compared to the other iconic pink hotels in Pinellas County. If you’re staying for awhile, or are traveling with a larger group, the premier King Suite has a separate sitting room.

History

New Port Richey, once dubbed "Hollywood East," captivated numerous celebrities during the vibrant 1920s and 1930s. The iconic hotel reportedly welcomed an array of stars, including silent film star Thomas Meighan, Gloria Swanson, Lupe Velez, and Charlie Chaplin. Over the years, it continued to be a favorite retreat for cultural icons such as Johnny Cash and Ann Harding.

The Hacienda team has done a fabulous job showcasing its unique and storied history with the framed historical photos throughout the hotel. Make sure to wander the hallways to see all of them! My favorite was the photo titled “Celebrities on Horseback”!

Also take time to appreciate the the original chandeliers, bookshelves, and restored fireplace in the lobby.

Dining

Fine dining is on-site at The Hacienda. Sasha's on the Park is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Brunch is available on Sundays. If you can, snag a seat inside a small room that has floor to ceiling windows that provides views of the patio and nearby Sims Park. And, make sure to order some of my favorites, including the Espresso Martini, Calamari & Kale, Mushroom Risotto, Carbonara, and Cobbler.

Exploring Downtown New Port Richey

There’s so much to do steps away from The Hacienda, no driving required! Step out of hotel and head straight to Sims Park. Enjoy a leisurely walk around Orange Lake, take in the scenic views along the Cotee River, and look for a wide variety of birds, including White Ibis and Little Blue Heron. For brunch, visit Herschel's Scratch Kitchen, a local favorite. The Eggs Benedict are especially popular.

Downtown New Port Richey is also home to a variety of charming shops. Explore unique boutiques like Lis’s Pieces, The White Heron, and Made Artisan Hall.

In Summary, The Hacienda in New Port Richey is more than just a place to stay; it's a journey back in time to the Hollywood Heyday of New Port Richey! So, whether you're a history buff, a lover of vintage charm, or simply looking for a unique getaway, The Hacienda is for you! I hope you have a chance to check it out soon!
