Get a taste of the Everglades on this trail!

The Anhinga Trail is the perfect spot to sample all that Everglades National Park has to offer. Make sure to add it to your list of places to visit the next time you’re in South Florida!

See alligators, wading birds, air plants, and plenty of water lilies along the Anhinga Trail at Everglades National Park.

The Anhinga trail is the ideal place to get a taste of the Everglades for several reasons! It can easily be accessed from the Homestead entrance of the Everglades and is only a few minutes past the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center at the Royal Palm Information Center.

The trail is accessible for all because it is a mixture of boardwalk and pavement. Plus, because it’s only 0.8 of a mile, so you’re never too far away from your car (and the AC!).

While you’re in the area, also swing by the 0.4 mile Gumbo Limbo Trail. You’ll walk through, in part, a jungle-like hammock of gumbo limbo trees.

If you’d like a a guided experience, be sure to call ahead to see what time rangers are leading programs. And, don’t forget to stop by the small bookstore! You’ll find Everglades books and trinkets, as well as ice cream treats!

Now that you’ve built confidence in the Everglades, continue farther south to Flamingo! It’s about 37 miles south of the Anhinga Trail.

You can stay overnight by booking an eco-tent, house boat, or plain old camping! A 24-room lodge will be soon be available for as well. I can’t wait to try that out!
